Please join us for a special evening with Melissa G. Gonzales, Head of Library and Archives for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (which includes the de Young and the Legion of Honor). Throughout her sixteen years in the profession, she has had unique opportunities of working for institutions whose libraries and archives are in their nascency with limited resources, as well as established repositories. During this presentation, Melissa will share their experience working with bibliographic collections, institutional archives, and records management at academic institutions and museums, in particular, for FAMSF.
About Melissa Gonzales:
BA, University of Texas at Austin; MSLIS, Simmons University. Certified Archivist; SAA Digital Archives Specialist Certification; 2014 SAA ALI Cohort. After a brief stint in records management at Houston Community College and Exelixis, Melissa
has returned to LAMs and is currently the Head of Library & Archives for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. She has worked in libraries and archives at Simmons University, Goliad County (TX), the National Cowboy & Western Heritage
Museum, the University of Texas at Arlington, the Witte Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. She has previously served in leadership positions in the Society of American Archivists’ (SAA) Council, Appointments Committee, Nominating
Committee, and Students and New Archives Professionals Section. Melissa is also the Immediate Past President for the Society of Southwest Archivists (SSA) and has served on their Executive Board and as Secretary. She co-wrote the
chapter “Archival Values in Museums” for the book Museum Archives: Practice, Issues, Advocacy, and is currently writing a chapter on records management
for the upcoming Selecting and Appraising Archives and Manuscripts for SAA’s Archival Fundamental Series III.
