Join SLA NY on a Walking Tour of the Lower Upper West Side (Free)
When:  Saturday, May 18 from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

Licensed tour guide and former librarian, Leigh Hallingby, will walk us through the Upper West Side from West 59th Street, where it begins, to West 77th Street. Our journey will include exploring the vast transformation of 2 parts of the neighborhood: Lincoln Center (former residential area) and Riverside South (former NY Central freight railroad yards). Along the way we will also focus on two major monuments to the American Civil Rights Movement. And we will see some wonderful parts of vintage New York. We will learn more about two great Upper West Side museums: the American Museum of Natural History and the New-York Historical Society. 

MEETING PLACE: Deutsche Bank Center (formerly Time Warner Center), 10 Columbus Center, inside at the top of the Whole Foods escalator
Take 1/A/C/D subway lines to Columbus Circle/59th Street

Leigh is a licensed New York City tour guide specializing in the Upper West Side, Harlem, Morningside Heights, and Washington Heights. She is passionate about exploring all five NYC boroughs and beyond on foot, mostly through organized walking tours. Leigh holds Masters degrees in both Social Work and Library Service. Leigh is a feminist, collector, genealogist, and lover of arts, culture, and travel. After residing in the suburbs of NYC for many years, she now loves living on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
